A company named Slacker makes a very unique portable Internet radio product called the Slacker. It's sort of like a TiVo for Internet radio because it allows you to timeshift your Internet radio listening.
Using onboard storage, the Slacker connects to the manufacturers website and downloads your selections of Internet music streams, allowing you to listen to them anywhere, even after your connection to the Internet is closed.
Several different models vary primarily in the amount of onboard storage with 4GB and 8GB models in the current selection.
Once you purchase a Slacker you have two options available for the music service that gets your stations onto the device. By default it uses a free service, and the stations you receive contain an occasional commercial, though far fewer than regular commercial radio. For a small monthly fee you can get more customized music stations that are ad free, but the basic free Slacker service is very, very nice as it is.
